Windows prevents TOWeb from saving your sites

The Windows “Controlled folder access” protection blocks saving: how to allow TOWeb.

On Windows, a Microsoft Defender protection called Controlled folder access can prevent TOWeb from saving your sites in the Documents folder. TOWeb warns you as soon as you open a site: “Windows is preventing TOWeb from saving this site”. Until TOWeb is allowed, your changes cannot be saved.

Why this happens

This protection is off by default. It was turned on on your computer, by you, by your administrator or by your antivirus. It only lets the apps that Windows already knows write to your personal folders. TOWeb 15 is recent: Windows does not know it yet.

Allow TOWeb

  1. Open Windows Security: Start menu, then type “Windows Security”.
  2. Choose Virus & threat protection, then Protection history.
  3. Click the Protected folder access blocked entry that mentions TOWeb V15.exe.
  4. Click Actions, then Allow on device.
  5. Go back to TOWeb: saving resumes.

Another way: in Virus & threat protection, open Manage ransomware protection, then Allow an app through Controlled folder access, and add TOWeb V15: by default, C:\Program Files\TOWeb V15\TOWeb V15.exe.

If your computer is managed by a company, this setting may be locked: ask your administrator to allow TOWeb.

With another antivirus

Some antivirus programs have a similar protection against ransomware. The principle is the same: add TOWeb to the allowed apps in your antivirus folder protection.
